Introducing the Black Pepper Plant
Immerse yourself in the world of exotic spices with our Black Pepper Plant (Piper nigrum). Native to the lush landscapes of India and the Indo-Malayan region, this plant is a treasure trove of flavor and aroma.
The Black Pepper plant is a member of the Piperaceae family, known for its unique characteristics. It thrives in warm months, but its resilience allows it to be available year-round. The plant’s preference for hot, humid climates and some shade makes it a perfect addition to your indoor garden or a shaded outdoor area.
The plant’s beauty lies in its small, one-seeded berry-like drupes, which cluster together in groups of about 50 on a catkin. When the first ‘berry’ begins to turn red, they are usually picked and can be used fresh green. Upon drying, these transform into the black wrinkled peppercorns that are a staple in kitchens worldwide.
One of the most important spices since ancient times, the Black Pepper plant is best grown in a pot or raised bed in acid soil, such as Canadian Peat. It’s not just a plant; it’s a piece of history that you can grow in your own home.
The Black Pepper plant is not just resilient to varying temperatures, withstanding temperatures as low as 28 – 30 F, but also comes in different varieties like the ‘Sarawak’.
Bring a piece of the exotic to your home or garden with the Black Pepper plant. Its rich history and culinary importance make it a must-have for any plant enthusiast or aspiring chef. Experience the joy of growing your own spices with the Black Pepper plant.
Note: To comply with interstate shipping rules, our citrus shipping inventory is kept in a separate greenhouse. Online availability reflects that greenhouse stock. In-store citrus is managed separately and may differ or be limited.
Inventory policy: Online citrus = greenhouse shipping inventory (kept isolated for interstate compliance). In-store citrus availability is separate and changes frequently.
Citrus Shipping Policy: Citrus ships from our isolated greenhouse on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to ensure quick transit and meet agricultural regulations. If your order includes non-citrus trees, they may ship separately and arrive before the citrus.

Carriers and Services
We ship all orders via UPS, offering Standard, Expedited, and Overnight services. Shipping costs and delivery times depend on your location and the selected service.
Winter Shipping Advisory
Cold Weather Alert: Tropical trees are highly sensitive to cold temperatures. During colder months, our greenhouses maintain warm, optimal conditions for growth, which makes plants more vulnerable to cold damage during shipping.
Recommendations: If temperatures along the shipping route are below 40°F, we recommend holding your order until it’s safe to ship. We will notify you if a delay is necessary.
No Freeze Warranty: We do not guarantee plants shipped during freezing conditions. Shipping in cold weather is at the buyer’s discretion and risk.
Shipping Schedule
Local (In-State) Shipments: Orders ship Monday through Wednesday to ensure delivery before the weekend. Most locations within the state receive deliveries in 1 to 2 days.
Out-of-State Shipments: Orders ship primarily on Monday and Tuesday to avoid weekend delays.
